Treatment of Cavities
A child’s primary teeth first can first start to erupt as early as 6 months and will remain until age 12-13. It is of extreme importance to treat cavities in primary teeth. It is often mistakenly thought that cavities on primary teeth do not need to be treated. If cavities on a child are left untreated, then the decay can spread rapidly and reach the nerve of the tooth, resulting in a severe toothache which may result in a dental abscess. It is the goal of Dr. Fisher and Dr. Reddy to treat cavities and stop the spread of tooth decay in its early stages before your child has any pain or discomfort.
The procedure of treating a cavity depends on the depth of tooth decay. There are times when the cavity is shallow and may be treated without local anesthesia. If Dr. Fisher or Dr. Reddy decide that local anesthesia is required for treatment then it is very important to not to use words like “needle” or “shot” with your child. As pediatric dentists, Dr. Fisher and Dr. Reddy have extensive behavior management techniques in order to make the experience as easy as possible for your child. At the time of examination, Dr. Fisher or Dr. Reddy will review with you your child’s treatment plan. If there are any questions before treatment, Dr. Fisher, Dr. Reddy and their dental team are available to address any of your concerns.
